Nonprofit Missouri Eating Disorders Association Announces Plans to Close at 2025 Year-End

SAINT LOUIS, Mo., Sept. 26, 2025 – The Missouri Eating Disorders Association (MOEDA), a statewide leader in eating disorder education, advocacy and community outreach, announced today that it will cease operations at the end of the 2025 calendar year. The organization’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to sunset operations due to the evolving landscape of nonprofit and healthcare resources, which resulted in a loss of critical funds.

Since its founding in 2003, MOEDA has reached thousands of Missourians through life-saving education and support programs, most notably its Feed the Facts initiative, which partnered with hundreds of schools across the state to equip students, teachers, administrators and families with tools to understand the signs, symptoms and myths surrounding eating disorders. While operations will cease at the end of the 2025 calendar year, all remaining funds will be allocated to the Feed the Facts Program, with school visits scheduled through the fall semester.

“Thanks to the dedication of our donors, volunteers and partners, we are proud to say that we equipped communities with knowledge that can save lives,” said Mishell Hashmi, President of MOEDA. “Our work has touched communities across Missouri in lasting and meaningful ways.”

Board Members are hopeful that the organization’s legacy will live on through the thousands of people who have been educated, supported and inspired by its programs.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to every donor, volunteer, clinician, educator, community leader and individual who made this work possible,” said board member Celeste Herleth. “Together, we helped break stigma, share truth and make recovery a reality for countless individuals and their families.”

MOEDA encourages community members to continue supporting organizations and providers across Missouri who remain committed to eating disorder prevention and treatment.
